Fashion on the Hudson III

FASHION ON THE HUDSON Sponsored by BTE, the Global Business Institute and Vera Moore Cosmetics. The presentation included Independent designers Laura Williams, Thomas LaVone, Stepanie Nunn, Street M.O.D.E., Diane Linston, CoCo, Fashion Industries High School, Red Bank High School, Bill Witherspoon, The BrownStone,
RICO, Muzic Luvers, Harlem Haven Hats, Dream Kosmetics, Candance, film star of “The Making of a SuperModel”

What we thought? It was a very hot day for an un-tented outdoor fashion show. Although some designers presented fashions that were commercial and aesthetically pleasing, it wasn’t a “homerun”. We felt as though we were viewing a (forgive us) a sub-cultural experience. The Brownstone presentation was our personal favorite. The knit presentation was fun (we loved the gold crocheted dress!), however, the shoes selected for the models were too clunky for the tightly knit collection.

The kids collection of clothes were perfect for the burgeoning fashionista. However, we were taken aback by the sight of these precious little girls strutting provocatively on the runway with kitten heels ala Suri Cruise. These sweet babies deserved their own kid friendly show, complete with stuffed animals and a protective “by invitation only” setting.

We hope next year the organizers take it to the next level so it feels and looks less “home grown” and more refined. The designers deserve better. Our recommendations? Hire an event planner who has worked NYC fashion week, make sure the models have a proper fitting so everything fits. Have models wear proper support garments i.e. spanx to give a more polished look.

Kudos to the makeup artist from Vera Moore.

Lets keep the little girls off the catwalk unless its a children’s fashion show. Its a little frightening to see little girls walking the runway just after seeing grown men in skimpy bathing suits.
