Hyères International Fashion Festival:

The top fashion design prize of the 27th Hyères International Fashion Festival, held in the south of France (April 27-30), was awarded Sunday to a Finnish design trio: Elina Laitinen Siiri Raasakka and Tiia Siren.

The competition’s judges included Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto . Yohji appreciated the team’s use of a futuristic theme and color.  Much like the reality show Project Runway the festival allows ten up and coming designers to present their collections to professionals from the fashion industry as well as the general public. Rani Totman, designer of St. Pucchi, incorporates sparkling jewels, delicate laces, classic bustles and feminine silhouettes to complete a fantasy look for every bride. Luxe Gal was invited to the lovely Essex Hotel in Manhattan to view the collection.

Rani has found that whether a bride is a celebrity or not, her wedding day is her day to live her dream. She advises women to follow their heart when they shop for a wedding dress.

Rani is not a stranger to the world of celebrity brides. She designed the wedding dress worn by Lisa Kudrow during the last season of Friends. Rani also designed a wedding dress for actress Tara Reid.

So what tips does Rani have for the upcoming flock of brides? Rani envisions something a little cheeky for those who like to make a fashion statement, such as a gown with sequins and feathers. The look is fitted, edgy and definitely aisle-stopping. For the classic girl, Rani suggests a strapless ball gown with a cathedral train, in an embossed fabric with a touch of lightness to give a “float on air” feeling. Accessories should include heavy chunky jewelry.

For the second-time bride who has “been there and done white” Rani suggests opting for color. Look for gowns in lilac, ecru and even metallics. After viewing the St. Pucchi collection, we can see that it will ring true to every woman, whether she is the girl next door or the celebrity on the red carpet.

Ultimately, your wedding day is all about you and following your heart to bring your fantasy to life. It’s the day that you are the star and all eyes are on you. Of course, it can be a stressful time as well, so brides-to-be, take a little time out for yourselves: read a trashy novel; run a bubbly bath or go online for a little CheekyBingo.

Giambattista Valli for Macy’s collection, hits 225 of the chain’s nationwide outposts Wednesday, October 26. This marks the third of Macy’s Impulse collaborations this year. This collection’s theme is “Safari”.  Some piece are lower priced versions of their runway collection while others are a fresh take on the Giambattista Valli style. You get the sense that the designer knows what flatters the female form. What did we love? The hot hot haute animal print one shoulder figure hugging dress, the cute animal print mini skirt … who knew Wilma Flintstone would become a fashion icon?? There isn’t a single piece that you wouldn’t want in your wardrobe. Now with a price range of $50 to $150 even a fashionista on a tight budget can afford one hot piece!

Erin Fetherston’s  collection was presented at MILK studios.  Although Erin maintains that her collection is not “era-centric.”  there was a very evident 60′s vibe.  The signature of Erin’s prints were Butterflies in various hues on shorts, dresses and trouser. Some loose, tailored or floaty draped silhouettes. We loved them all …

To get the dramatic 60′s eye MAC makeup artist Kal Iardos James used silver, peach, black and added a layer of faux eyelashes. You can get this look with smokey grey, and a softer shade of peach and pink. Hold the eyelashes and stick to mascara to make this more appropriate for daytime.
